Guiding Principles
These are the Hutt Valley Sports Awards and should reflect that. Recipients should be identifiable with the Hutt Valley and the Awards should be aspired to by and be an attraction to Hutt Valley athletes, residents and sports organisations and clubs.

Qualifying Period
The Qualifying Period is the 12 months to 14 April in the Award year.
Criteria
Nominees should:
- Currently live, or have lived in the Hutt Valley or generally identify or be identified with Hutt City or Upper Hutt City.
- Participate for Hutt or Upper Hutt Teams, Schools and Clubs if they can provide appropriate competitive opportunity.
- It is acknowledged that athletes may move to other regions in order to participate at an elite level in their chosen sport.
- Be recognised internationally, nationally or regionally in their code.
- Be a person of integrity and good character.
Relationship to Ātiawa Toa Wellington Regional Awards
These Awards are stand-alone but are complementary to Ātiawa Toa Wellington Region Awards. Recipients would also be eligible for these but would have to be nominated under those criteria.
Jurisdiction of the Judging Panel
The judging panel:
- Makes final decisions
- Has power to add to the nominations if unanimously agreed
Finalists
The judging panel will select up to three finalists and the winners in each category except from the nominations. These finalists will be profiled and feature in the Centre Spread of the Programme.
