Mary is vision impaired with light perception, and swims in the Para S11 swimming classification where all swimmers wear blacked out goggles.
Beside her outstanding Rio de Janiero Performances, Mary set four Oceania Records at either the Olympics or the World IDM Championships in Berlin. She was a Halberg Awards Finalist, and was awarded a Massey University Sports Blue.
She was Wellington Swimmer and Disabled Swimmer of the Year 2016.
Mary also visits schools, sports, and youth groups in the Hutt Valley and Wellington, to speak about Rio and to engage with them and show achieving dreams is possible.
